DJ class - week 1

Here are the notes from the board. It was interesting to hear your ideas on what a DJ is.

Please complete the following task before next week's lesson:

Choose a DJ (anybody, they don't have to come from the lists we made in class). Research the following, listing your research sources (not Wikipedia):

• biography (history-current)
• what music do they play?
• where do they play?
• what equipment do they use?
• find a video of the DJ playing, and embed it into your blog post

Music Production Yr 1 - Induction Task 2

Your second task is a test of your ability to research and show initiative, and to locate local music events. This is a vital part of being a musician - checking out your peers and professional artists.

Find a music event, attend and write a review of the gig. Think about the following points:
Where was the event?
Who was the event attended by?
Who was playing?
What musical genres were covered?
Who was a standout performer? Why?
How did the musicians interact with the audience?
What was your overall impression of the event?
What did you learn that you will apply to your own music?

Music Production Yr 1 - Induction Task 1

Your first task is a test of your ability to work independently, and your ability to analyse and write about music. It will also give you a good idea of the type of research skills you need on our course, we require you to listen to a wide range on music and use it to influence your own projects.

Listen to the album 'Abbey Road' by The Beatles and write a review. Points to consider are musical style, instrumentation, lyrical content, production techniques and sound etc.
Pick two tracks which stand out and talk about them in further detail, highlight what you like/dislike about these particular tracks.

This is your first piece of coursework. Treat this as you would any other academic essay.

Post this work onto your blog by Friday 16th September, with the label 'Induction Project'.

Grammarly - spelling and grammar check App

I have just stumbled upon a free application that could prove to be incredibly helpful when writing your coursework - Grammarly.

This App works as an extension in Google Chrome. Grammarly works in real time to help you correct the spelling and grammar of anything you type  by automatically highlighting mistakes and enabling you to fix them at the click of a button.

This is especially useful for you guys, as you are asked to submit all of your work using a web browser you do not necessarily have access to the Spellcheck feature of Microsoft Word. When you are using Blogger the Grammarly icon appears at the bottom of the page, once you click its icon you can go into edit mode and correct any mistakes, or you can just hover over any word that is underlined red. Simple!

Browse to their website, sign up for free, add the extension to your browser (see below), and give it a try. It's free, and could really help you.

How to make a Blog post

The first step is to log into Blogger and sign in to your account.

To make a new post, click this icon.

Now you will see this screen.

At this point write a suitable title (look at the assignment brief!). Now in the box below type your assignment. Although we are using a blog format, you are still completing academic work, so use appropriate language, make sure to check your spelling and grammar, and think about the structure of the work.

When your work is complete, add a label. This will be related to the project you are working on at that time, for example 'Induction Project'.

Don't forget to press PUBLISH! Otherwise we can't see your work, and we can't mark it.
